Healthified Brownies

I bet, when you try this recipe you won't be able to tell the secret healthy ingredient! Again, this is a recipe of the category baking with beans. It is because of the black beans that we can refrain from using any flour, butter or oil in this recipe and we still get delicious, gooey brownies. Moreover, this is a way to increase protein in these brownies compared to regular brownies. The two eggs add to the protein as well.

The recipe is inspired by this brownie recipe, found on the blog ifootreal.com.

Description

Delicious and juicy brownies that taste just as alluring as they look! This is one of my favorite healthified recipes which you should try for yourself, by all means!

Ingredients
  • 15 dates (only use 10 if you're using medjool dates)
  • 250 g black beans (either from a can, rinsed well under water, or 100g of dried beans, soaked over night and cooked)
  • 2 eggs
  • 125 g applesauce (unsweetened)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 62 g cocoa powder (unsweetened, for baking)
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 36 g (sugar-free) chocolate ( a row of chocolate bar, usually 4 pieces)
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
How it is done:
  1. First, add the dates to your food processor and let it reduce to really small pieces.

  2. Then add all remaining ingredients except for the chocolate. Mix the ingredients to get a thick batter without any lumps. It might be necessary to scrape down the sides several times to get there.

  3. Chop the chocolate into pieces and set aside some of the bigger pieces for topping. Add the chocolate pieces to your batter and fold them in.
  4. Now prepare a baking dish sized 8.5 x 5.5 inches (22 x 14 cm) by lining it with parchment paper.

  5. Fill your baking dish with the batter and spread the remaining pieces of chocolate evenly on top. Bake the brownies for 30 minutes at 350° F (180° C).
