Taco seasoning is an absolute kitchen essential for me – simple, versatile, and full of flavor. Since I almost always have the spices at home, I prefer to mix my own taco seasoning. The combination of chili, cumin, paprika, and a subtle smoky note instantly brings that spicy Tex-Mex feeling to the plate and goes perfectly with tacos, burritos, chili sin / con carne, or spicy vegetables.

Inspiration for this Taco Seasoning

This recipe is based on the Taco Seasoning Recipe provided by Deni Spies, which you can read on her blog clean & delicious ! As you can see, I haven't changed much, but the smoked paprika powder makes it a little more aromatic!

Salt and Pepper in Spice Blends?!

As you can see, I don't use salt or pepper in the taco seasoning mix in this recipe. The reason for this is that I primarily use these seasonings while cooking, and I have to season the dish with salt and pepper to taste anyway. It's easier to find the right amount of salt and pepper when you can control it yourself, rather than adding extra salt and pepper to the dish with the taco seasoning.

If you'd rather use the seasoning for dips or similar dishes instead of for cooking dishes, you can of course adjust it and mix salt or pepper directly into the seasoning! Let me know in the comments how you prefer it!

  • Fresh & Aromatic Guacamole: This creamy guacamole is made with ripe avocado, red onion, garlic, and lemon or lime juice, and refined with fresh herbs like cilantro. This Mexican classic is ready in minutes and is ideal as a dip or as a side dish to numerous Tex-Mex meals.
