Sometimes you just need something warm, crispy, and comforting – especially during the luteal phase when your body craves security and energy. These oven-baked sweet potato fries are exactly that: golden brown and crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. With just a few ingredients and a simple trick, you can conjure up a little moment of well-being straight from the oven in no time – completely guilt-free and with lots of self-love.

The Trick to Making Oven-baked Sweet Potato Fries Really Crispy

To ensure your oven-baked sweet potato fries turn out perfectly crispy, the most important thing is to avoid excessive moisture (steam) in the oven. You can achieve this by opening the oven door after about 10 minutes of baking to let the steam escape. From this point on, you should also leave the oven door slightly ajar while baking to allow moisture to continue escaping. This is the crucial factor that most people don't know or follow!

At this point I would like to thank Mrs. Flury and her recipe “Sweet Potato Fries 2.0” who inspired me to try this trick myself for the first time.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven, including the baking tray, to 430 °F (220 °C), fan setting.

  1. Peel the sweet potato and cut it into fries. Then place them in a zip-top or freezer bag and add the pepper and (coconut) oil. Distribute everything well in the closed bag until the sweet potato sticks are coated on all sides.

  1. Carefully line the hot baking sheet with parchment paper and place the sweet potato sticks on it. Spread them out well so they are not overlapping or touching each other. Then bake them for 10 minutes.

  1. Now open the oven door and let the steam escape. Use a spatula and wedge it in the oven door so you can continue baking with it slightly ajar. This allows the moist air to escape and the sweet potato fries to become perfectly crispy! Bake them for another 5 minutes.

  1. Turn the sweet potato fries over once on the baking sheet and then rotate the baking sheet itself 180° in the oven so that the sweet potato fries bake evenly on all sides. Bake them for another 5-10 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.

  1. Finally, sprinkle a little salt over the sweet potato fries and spread it evenly. Now you can serve and enjoy them!
